Elise

I just wanted to let you know that Elise is doing great after her surgery! She did very well on the car ride there and all through the prep work. We arrived at 5:30am and found a parking spot right in front of the door. She didn't want to go into the room, but her nurse talked her in very quickly. She picked out blue bugs bunny pj's and then got to play in the playroom for about 20 minutes. Then she wanted to watch a movie in bed. Soon the nurses came in to give her meds to help her sleep which she was a little hesitant to drink it. But after the nurse gave her a wet wash cloth to wipe her tongue off, she drank it down fine. Another nurse came in and helped her pick out which flavor she wanted in her mask. She chose strawberry over bubblegum. When the nurses left she told me how scared she was but that she remembered all the people that were praying for her. I asked her if she wanted to pray with me and she said yes so we did. Then we talked about how all she had to do was answer the nurses when they talked to her and sleep. By the time she was to be wheeled away, she was calm.

The surgery took about 40 minutes and then the doctor came in to tell me it was done. The doctor was able to see what was wrong with the paste from last time and able to watch the new paste go in. The way he explained it to me was that they want the paste to be in the center of the tube. Last time it shifted to the left...today, the new paste shifted to the right. It has about 6 weeks before it becomes permanent, so there is really no point in wondering if it is healed yet or not. We will know for sure on July 16th when she has another VCUG test done. Until then, all we can do is pray that God will heal it. If our miracle does not happen and she is not healed, they will do a more invasive surgery.

Today Elise spent the day playing with her best friend Lilly. It was a gorgeous day outside so they played in the dirt, blew bubbles and rode bikes. After a warm soapy bath, she is now sound asleep getting ready for another busy day. On the way home yesterday, Elise asked me, "Did the surgery fix it mommy? Because I really don't want to go back to the butt doctor anymore." I told her that I didn't know, but that if it didn't fix it this time we would try something different that would fix it for sure! She said, "OK mommy- can we go to McDonalds now?" :)
