Top 5 highlights from the weekend

... in no particular order...

5. Garage Sale
On Friday, my neighbor hosted a garage sale. I told her, "Sure, I'll find some stuff to put out." Eliot sorted through legos and Elise sorted Polly Pockets. I dug through the basement and managed, for lack of better words, to find a whole pile of crap. Some of it went to the trash, some of it went to goodwill, and the rest went to the neighbors garage sale. We ended up making $180 from that pile of unwanted stuff!

4. Trip to Omaha Zoo
I had planned on taking the kids to the Omaha Zoo on Friday before we knew that we were also doing a garage sale. We decided that we would help at the sale until noon and then head to Omaha. It was a perfect day for the zoo- sunny skies, light breeze and 75 degrees. We had a great time walking through many, many exhibits, feasting on snow cones and popcorn and taking in the Animal Kingdom at the Imax. It is so easy to go to the zoo with a 15 year old and a 9 year old. No strollers, no fits, no whining... just good times together. What a treat!
3. New Carpet
Scott and I agreed that we could finally afford to carpet the upstairs bedrooms and stairwell. Earlier in the week we picked out carpet and on Friday they installed it. It's a neutral, soft, beige berber with a pattern in it. On Thursday, we cleared out all the beds, computers, dressers, etc. On Saturday, we spent the morning cutting doors so that they could close over the new carpet and reassembling the furniture. Why did we think this would be a piece of cake while also helping with a garage sale? Probably because we have good neighbors.

2. The civic dies... in Kansas City
Adrienne took a couple of friends to Kansas City on Friday to visit a friend and see a concert. To make a long story short, the motor died and the car had to be towed to the Honda dealer in Kansas City. On Saturday they determined that two of the cylinders in the motor have to be replaced. They think it will be done by Wednesday for under $2500. It worked out that Adrienne's friend's caught a ride back to Lincoln today and she will wait for the car to be finished. Cars are great until they aren't.

1. Neighborhood night at the park
Tonight Elise and I spent a beautiful night at our little park down the block. Elise played toilet tag with the neighbor kids while I visited with the adults. You know it's a good night when the kids don't want to go home. Welcome summer!
