Halloween Fun

"...Not too scary, and not too saucy..."
As we were sitting in a staff meeting trying to figure out how to tell the middle school kids that the upcoming Trunk-or-Treat event was for mostly preschool kiddos and the costumes should be G-rated, we threw out words like, "not too scary...gross...sexy...slutty".. and then proceeded to give the assignment to our new pastoral intern with the understanding that those words wouldn't be used. Now, it's hard to convey our amusement when the quiet and modest intern announced that the guildelines for the costumes were "not too scary and not too saucy"... we howled with delight! (Yes, we are easily amused.) So when Kathy told me that some of the staff was going to go as "saucy", I threw this costume together so I could join in the fun.

"Need a napkin?...a love relationship with God gets messy"
(Amy came up with the message that tied us to God)

Here's Eliot's small group getting their Husker tailgating "trunk" ready for the trick-or-treaters. They had a great tent- it had a space heater, hot dogs, hot cider, a TV... it was a great place to warm-up on a chilly and windy night.

Here's Elise making the rounds with her friend Bailey. (She's Hannah Montana and her friend is a black cat.) We started the evening out with a hot dog supper, then trunk-or-treating, and then closed with storytelling and songs. We had a great turnout with over 400 kids.

Yesterday we carved pumpkins. Well, Elise was the only one who wanted to carve pumpkins. She actually dug out all the guts by herself and then drew a face and let me carve it.

Tonight she got dressed up and went trick-or-treating with Lilly. Adrienne and Eliot stayed home to pass out candy while Scott and I took the girls through the neighborhood.

After an hour and a half of fun and a full pumpkin bucket, Elise is sorting her candy and sharing :)
 Happy Halloween!
