This week is the final week of our church camps. In the mornings we have VBS from 9am-Noon. Our theme is CaveQuest. Elise is with her friend Eden and they are in charge of 3 preschool boys. They stay with them all morning helping them do the various activities and making sure they don't get lost. We have 350 children and 170 volunteers so we consider it a successful day if no one gets lost!
I'm doing preschool music. This was on Monday in my classroom.
It was drum day and we were playing "conductor".
The drummers watch the conductors hands to see how loud or soft to play their drums. There are 5 groups of preschoolers that rotate through my room each morning.
After VBS, Elise changes into a blue Thrivent shirt and goes to Up In Out Camp. The camp stands for reaching "Up" to God, "In" to ourselves and "Out" to the community. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the 24 middle school campers hopped in the brand new church bus (and found out the AC was broke!!! It's been 101 degrees this week!!) and drove to Barnabas to have lunch and work in the store. Some of it was behind the scenes cleaning and sorting items, and one day the store was open and they helped people shop for what they needed.
Today they went to FoodNet to tour and learn about the organization.
Walking through a cooler....
Then they met back up at church tonight to serve ice-cream after the VBS Sing-Along.
They ended up singing and dancing...
Tomorrow is our last day! We will have a regular morning and then the Up In Out campers will eat lunch with us and help us clean up the building. It's been a great week!
(And yes, we are tired.)
