The Enochers

This summer a dear friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy in July and has an excellent chance of complete recovery. She begins her chemo treatments on Monday and they will last until January. Through this roller coaster of a journey, I have seen God's presence in her attitude, in the calm presence she exudes, in the humor she has been able to find in certain circumstances, and in the grace she has been given to endure this battle. She specifically said that she is sure God is going to use this for "something" because of the many little things that have happened to her in this short time.

As the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk is coming through Lincoln on Oct 23rd, my friends and I were helping her brainstorm a team name. We had just been to a breakfast that was offering hope for cancer patients. What we thought was going to be an uplifting kick-off to the Making Strides campaign, ended up being a little bit of a downer as some of the speakers gave their testimonies. We reflected later how a particular woman, just seemed to have no hope even though she was doing well at the time. We wondered about her faith... did she believe in a God who would walk with her and give her the strength she needed?

As we narrowed down team names, we knew that humor would be OK, and we knew that God needed to be represented. I am proud to say that I am part of Sheridan's "Enochers" team. We have T-shirts available for sale. The front will say "Enochers", (can you find the humor in that?), based on Gen 5:22, and the back will say "Walking With God- Striving for Hope". Anyone can walk with us on the 23rd at Holmes Lake, (families, friends, strollers), it's a pretty busy place! If you would like a T-shirt, let me know soon. Procedures that used to put women out of commission for weeks or months, now only takes days or weeks to recover from.

As for my friend, she still has some unknown territory to cover. Prayers are appreciated for her! And I know that through it all, she will be walking with God and striving for hope!
